Winter Roof Ice

Not from today since it's been over 60 degrees F three days in a row and unseasonably warm the rest of the week. Ah, climate change.

Life of Art SitRep #367 Thwarted

The week started out well: I saw an exhibit of Japanese color woodblock prints. Such impressive detail, artistry, and technical expertise go into each print.

Shot 121 photographs at various locations. Culled 26, but have barely looked at most of them.

Did lesson 7 of LR PS classroom in a book. The face option in the Liquefy filter in Photoshop is crazy amazing.

Around here in my week (Sunday night), I became really ill and it basically knocked me out the rest of the week.

I promoted some products on Twitter and followed up on some display issues in my store.

Watched a few Chase Jarvis videos including "How Introverts Become Great At Promoting Their Work."

Updated links, LOA files.

How was your week? I sincerely hope it was healthier than mine. Here's to next week (fingers crossed) being better.

Life of Art SitRep #366 Resist & Persist, Rainbow Colored Balloons

This week, I shot 345 photographs of ice and snow that drew my eye. Culled 124 so far. Still have more to go through, but at least I am caught up on downloading them from the camera.

Made a couple of Valentines for my parents to thank them for theirs.

Created some Resist & Persist t-shirts, postcards, and posters:

Check out the rest of the Resist & Persist collection.

Created Progressive Political Pins collection, and made a composite of pins for the banner in Photoshop:

Created Resistance Starts Here on Blue Silk Abstract Photo Poster:

Rocklawn Arts blogged New Resist & Persist Kit Collection at Rocklawn Arts, New Progressive Political Pins Collection at Rocklawn Arts.

Finished a new composite of an ink drawing and several paint swatches to create a Rainbow Colored Balloons illustration which I added to Rocklawn Arts on select items. Here are a few of them:

Love Is Love

Love Is Love12. Love Is Love by Marc Andreyko

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An artistically diverse collection of one and two page stories donated by comic writers and artists to benefit survivors of the Orlando Pulse shooting.

Many stories directly reference the mass shooting. There are also a wide array of LGBTQ stories from different POVs. Some pages made me cry, others were hopeful or defiant or relayed personal stories.

It's a wide mix so what resonates with you will vary from person to person. I will say it's more emotionally heavy than I was expecting, but definitely still worth reading.

For straight people who ask, "What do I tell my kids when they see gay people kissing?" or "How do I explain this mass shooting to them?" there are stories that address that.

Support the comic creators on the Queer Cartoonists Database and Cartoonists of Color Database.

More Whiskey

Not sure what the world's coming to when I'm the one saying the sweet potatoes need more whiskey, but the rejiggered leftovers were mighty tasty!

Midnighter, Vol. 1: Out

Midnighter, Vol. 1: Out11. Midnighter, Vol. 1: Out by Steve Orlando

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Crazy and awesome. Out gay superhero Midnighter is a young man with a fight computer in his brain, physical enhancements, and a past he doesn't remember. He exists in the DC universe of superheroes and has time for relationships with men.

A refreshing and engaging take on a superhero. Highly recommended!

I look forward to reading volume 2.

Life of Art SitRep #365 #NoBanNoWall and #ShePersisted

Here we are at number 365, a year's worth of life of art updates. For a long time, I chose to keep my store nonpolitical, but as you may have noticed over the last few months, I just can't do that anymore. I refuse to be silent when the rights and lives of so many, including my own, are at stake.

On the nonpolitical front, I shot 4 self portraits and culled 1. Also shot some winter photographs I've yet to upload.

Worked on a scan of an ink drawing of balloons and composited some painted colors into it. Needs some fine-tuning and I'm mulling color choices.

Finished lesson 6 in Lightroom Photoshop Classroom in a Book.

Installed some new font files, tried out a few ideas but dismissed them.

Created a couple of postcards for people to use to write their political representatives:

Created #NoBanNoWall pins, shirts, stickers, magnets, hats collection:

Created #ShePersisted Gear collection:

Rocklawn Arts blogged New #NoMuslimBan collection at Rocklawn Arts, New #NoBanNoWall collection at Rocklawn Arts, New #ShePersisted Gear collection at Rocklawn Arts.

Started creating a new collection of Resist and Persist Gear:

Follow me on Twitter @RocklawnArts to see the latest products as I add them.

Made monthly backups. Have you backed up lately?

Finished creating Turquoise, Blue, Violet Painted Stripes products:

Check out the collection of Turquoise, Blue, Violet Painted Stripes products.

Rocklawn Arts blogged New Turquoise, Blue, Violet Painted Stripes pattern and also Popular #Resist and Protest Items which will post Saturday.

Made a Feminist sweatshirt and added it to the Feminist Gear collection, reorganized that a bit.

Reorganized collections.

Updated collections on blogs sidebars and shop tabs.

Updated LOA for end of month.

Updated links file.

Did lesson 5 of Lightroom/Photoshop book.

Finished reading Pop Photo Feb. 2016 issue. Yes, 2016. I think that was the last stray issue I had lying around. Maybe one more? sigh.
