Life of Art SitRep #203 The Finish Line At Last!

If you've been following along with my life of art, you know the past couple of months have been an ongoing marathon of new product additions to my store with ever furthering finish lines. Last week, Zazzle announced their last new product launch for 2013, so I finally had a proper end point in sight.

I rocked it out finishing the more time consuming additions of Poker Chips, May28th Watches, Table Lamps, Hanging Lamps, and Big Greeting Cards.

And completed the latest creations of Rickshaw iPad Mini Sleeves, Case-Mate Tough Xtreme iPhone 5/5S Cases, and finally, Flasks. Huzzah!

There is, of course, always more to do, but it feels good to have completed this huge task.

Updated LOA and links files with flasks.

Rocklawn Arts blogged New Pocket Journals at Rocklawn Arts! and New Big Greeting Cards at Rocklawn Arts!

With any luck, I will also have successfully updated the operating system on my computer. Fingers crossed. Figured I'd write this first just in case.

Power Questions: Build Relationships, Win New Business, and Influence Others

Power Questions - Build Relationships, Win New Business and Influence Others45. Power Questions - Build Relationships, Win New Business and Influence Others by Andrew Sobel

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A book of "power questions" and anecdotes that demonstrate their usage. A good book to practice your speed reading skills on. Each short chapter summarizes the question illustrated and how to use it.

Many questions are business oriented while others are personal or even suited to asking of yourself.

Handy for working on your conversational skills, getting to what matters in discussions.

Merry Christmas or Happy Wednesday, everybody!

The How and Where of What You Say

Here's a fun dialect quiz from the New York Times.

Reminds me of a paper I wrote for Physics of Sound that deconstructed the Virginian dialect. This quiz is more about word choices though. My map was all over the East Coast and South highlighting Tallahassee (where I have lived), Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

What's your map look like?

Life of Art SitRep #202 Approaching finish line

With Zazzle's announcement of their last new product launch for the year, I feel my marathon of adding new items to my existing designs is finally approaching an end. You know, until next year. I do think I can get caught up by next week, at least I'm hoping that's true. Then I can get back to creating and adding new photographs and designs.

So, what did I accomplish this week?

I made templates for Rickshaw iPad Mini Sleeves, Case-Mate Tough Xtreme iPhone 5/5S Cases, and Flasks. I finished adding these new products to all of my film photographs in my shop. I still need to finish going through my digital photographs.

For my digital designs, I finished adding Light Switch Covers, Cutting Boards, and Rickshaw iPad Mini Sleeves and made some headway with the new iPhone 5/5S cases.

Also created Poker Chips,
May28th Watches, Big Greeting Cards, Table Lamps, and Hanging Lamps for my Light Blue and White Zigzag design. These are more time consuming to do so I gave myself a break from them this week.

Changed back all iPad 2/3/4 Powis cases that Zazzle auto-switched to iPad Air cases that I'd already made. Sigh. My least favorite sort of work to do.

Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia

Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia44. Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia by Jason Loborik

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

If you've ever seen an Eye Witness book, this is one of those, even by the same publisher, DK. What that means is lots of pictures and basic information about the characters with sometimes silly/useless captions.

I would've liked something meatier, but then I started watching Doctor Who with the 4th Doctor. For someone newer to the series, or younger, this book would be a good overview of the characters from the series, original through current reboot ending before the recent "The Day of the Doctor" episode.

Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin

Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin42. Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin by Kathy Griffin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you have any doubts that Kathy Griffin deserves all she's attained, this book will put them to rest. She has busted her ass for years with a singular determination to achieve her success. For me, it reaffirmed and strengthened my opinion of her.

The book is biting and funny like her comedy. There are some heavier stories about her family and marriage but they don't weigh the book down. Rather they make you feel like you're seeing yet further behind the curtain.

Life of Art SitRep #200 Two hundred? Woohoo!

Welcome to the two hundredth week of my life of art! (As chronicled here; it's been going on a lot longer than that.) 200 consecutive Fridays, that's really something.

I started the SitReps, or situation reports, to hold me accountable for making progress each week. I haven't needed them for that in a long time, but I like having a record and sharing what I'm working on.

This week was the continuation of adding new product types to my existing designs. I finished adding Powis iPad Air Cases, Perfect Posters,Pocket Journals, Pewter Snowflake Ornaments, Case-Mate iPad Air Cases, and DODOcase iPad Air Cases to all of my geometric patterns. I still have the last two iPad Air cases to add to all of my photographs. Oy! Still good progress though.

Rocklawn Arts blogged New Pewter Snowflake Ornaments available at Rocklawn Arts!

Then I figured out where I left off creating Poker Chips, May28th Watches, Table Lamps, Hanging Lamps, and Big Greeting Cards and added them to 3 designs. Those should turn up in my shop soon.

Made my monthly backups.

Watched 1st 2 hours and ~1 hr 45 min after lunch break of DPReview LIVE workshop on cL.

How was your week? Don't forget to backup your computer!
