Life of Art SitRep #446 Add Your Company Logo

OK, I have to start by saying I shot 126 photographs this week and it turned out to be 2 months to the day since I'd last shot. The old camera I'd been using is kind of busted, enough to make it a super pain to use, so I haven't been shooting.

I researched cameras for ages and the few contenders were all long overdue for a refresh, so I've been patiently waiting to see what Photokina will bring in September.

Anyway, I borrowed a camera and it was good to shoot again.

Created a Company Logo Business Swag and Supplies collection. Increase your brand recognition by adding your company logo to business supplies and marketing swag so every interaction with clients and customers is memorable.

Created a few more holiday cards with variations (some have replaceable photos on the back):

Pinned to boards at Rocklawn Arts on Pinterest and created a Small Business Tips and Ideas board.

Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules

Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules (Delilah Dirk #3)29. Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules by Tony Cliff

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another rollicking adventure with Delilah Dirk. This one includes settings of ancient civilizations. The ruins Cliff has drawn are delightful!

A real treat. Highly recommended. I love all the ruins and Mediterranean vistas, and, of course, DD's swashbuckling & Selim's curiosity/sleuthing.

Spine: The Jud Fine art plan at the Maguire Gardens, Central Library, Los Angeles

Spine: The Jud Fine art plan at the Maguire Gardens, Central Library, Los Angeles28. Spine: The Jud Fine art plan at the Maguire Gardens, Central Library, Los Angeles by Jud Fine and Harry Reese

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book describes the research and planning that went into Jud Fine's art installation at the Maguire Gardens. The stairs, pools, and fountains trace the evolution of recorded knowledge from cave signs to pictographs to hieroglyphs, mathematics, music, languages nearly lost to those we'd recognize today.

There's a map of the world in one section and the places marked on it are libraries that were destroyed. The book lists them all with the circumstances and year as much as they're known. It's heartbreaking. But pieces survive, collections are rebuilt or started anew.

The pools trace evolution and the grotto, the evolution of civil liberties.

It is a beautiful, well researched, celebration of knowledge throughout recorded history and across the world.

A little backstory: I didn't know what this book was until I pulled it off a shelf. Its title "Spine" had been catching my eye for quite a while. I thought maybe it was a book of photographs of skeletons or... I really didn't know. The book was more fulfilling and enriching than I'd ever guessed it might be. Highly recommended!
