Supergirl, Volume 1: Reign Of The Cyborg Supermen

Supergirl, Volume 1: Reign Of The Cyborg Supermen45. Supergirl, Volume 1: Reign Of The Cyborg Supermen by Steve Orlando

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really enjoyed this and look forward to seeing how it continues.

While it has similarities to the tv show currently airing, this picks up earlier in Kara's life on Earth. She has not been here that long, is only 16, and the Danvers' are DEO agents who have been assigned to be her parents and help Kara learn about humans. She's enrolled in high school and does not fit in.

Cat Grant is starting her media empire in National City. I love her character in this.

Good fun!

More Subconscious Earping

I dreamt I was at another Earper meetup (having been to my first actual one this past weekend). It was much smaller and a different venue, about 5 people seated around a large round table at something like a diner. One of the five was Wynonna Earp* showrunner Emily Andras.

She was asking Wynonna Earp trivia questions which started with question 2.

"You skipped question one," someone at the table pointed out.

"Nope," Emily said, "Question 2 is the first question."

OK, I shrugged.

The next question was 11. Made enough sense to me.

My glass was empty so I got up to get some more water. "May I have some water please?" I asked the guy behind the counter.

"Sure," he said, pouring me a small glass. "That'll be 57 cents."

"For tap water? Could you at least pour me a bigger glass?" I asked as I fished out a dollar to pay him.

"You should really talk to Linda," he said leading me into the back. Oddly it was not a kitchen but a sizable room with a wall to the side with a cutout window in it which made me think of the DMV. Linda was sitting behind it.

Apparently there was some paperwork I could fill out to get tap water for free, but Linda was about to leave for lunch and couldn't find it.

"What information do you need? Could I just write it out for you?" I asked, trying to move things along. I was missing the trivia game with Emily freaking Andras and did not care that much about the water.

Alas I woke up before I got back to the meetup, my brain deciding my subconscious was just jerking me around.

Still, it's always fun when people you admire turn up in your dreams.

*Why are you not watching Wynonna Earp yet?! It's coming back for season 3 in 2018, so you have time to catch up on the first two seasons.

Adventures in Shaving

When I picked up my razor, I somehow managed to knock the double-bladed cartridge head loose. Naturally it fell into the tub.

Great.

I set the handle back down and went to pick up the cartridge head when I saw it slip down the drain.

Wonderful.

For a moment, I debated my next course of action. Skip shaving? It really didn't matter, but my leg was already lathered up, so I felt committed to following through.

I set the water flow as low as I could on the shower head and stepped out of the tub to get my last razor cartridge, trying to constrain my dripping to the bathmat.

Not that I really believe in such things, but I took it as a sign from the universe to shave with a fresh blade. No nicks, so I'll take it.

After I got out of the shower, I tried to retrieve the fallen cartridge. It had advanced beyond the part of the drain I could reach, but was later retrieved with a strong magnet at the end of an extending rod, huzzah!

Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People

Full disclosure: I won a copy of this book, but it's one I would have gotten around to reading anyway. Also, I'm really happy to own it as I will be revisiting sections.

The chapters are broken into various people hacks for making connections with people in the first five minutes, first hours, and first five days. Lots of doable tips.

Much of the material was familiar to me because I follow her scienceofpeople.com blog and have watched her classes on Creative Live, but I enjoyed the format and further details included in the book.

I look forward to checking out the bonus features for the book online.

Life of Art SitRep #401 Ninja Art Visits, More Custom Notebooks

Had errands a couple of times this past week that took me further afield but put me in the neighborhood of a cool art museum. It's huge but I used my limited time to do some strategic viewing of certain exhibits. Good for the soul.

Shot 179 photographs, culled 48, rated rest.

Played my guitar for the first time in ages.

Added more select designs to new Spiral Notebooks with customizable inner pages (wide ruled, college ruled, graph paper, sketch, recipe, practice, sketch/practice, and sketch/wide ruled):
