Life of Art SitRep #220 Slow Track

I feel like I got more non-art than art things done this week, but they needed attending to, so I guess that's good. A few niggling tasks off my list at any rate.

In the realm of art, I finished creating the Samsung Galaxy S5 Cases and Wine Gift Boxes I started last week.

Then I began adding my designs and photographs to new Reusable Grocery Bags.
•Dimensions: 12” x 16”x 5”.
•Made with lightweight polyester fabric.
•Printed in full color with vibrant, fade-resistant ink.
•Printing available on one side or both sides.
•Folds up with snap closure to easily fit in your pocket or purse.
•Holds up to 50 lbs.

Tip of the Day

If you have a medical emergency and call 911, try to unlock your door if you can.

The EMTs will get in one way or another, but you'd probably rather not have a busted door to deal with.

I enjoyed the photographs, all black and white, taken from 1845 to 1969. The accompanying text to the photos was a bit hit or miss so I dinged it a star for that.

Each photo gets its own page with text opposite. The writing about the early photographic processes is quite interesting. Then the text becomes more about the photographers, and then the author rambles into highly speculative and assumptive territory when it seems he doesn't know much about the photographer or the particular photo.

The photos are an interesting look at the evolution of photography over time but well before the advent of digital cameras. This book of photos covers the days when you could have been the first to photograph something.

Life of Art SitRep #219 Fits & Starts

Just when you think things are getting back to normal, you wake up feeling just on the verge of getting sick. I scrapped most of what I had planned for today hoping rest and, fingers crossed, a good's night sleep will fend it off.

In bits and pieces this week, however, I did manage to do a few things.

I created templates for new Samsung Galaxy S5 Cases and Wine Gift Boxes and started adding my designs and photographs to them.

Clues

When I woke up this morning, the light spilling through the tabs at the tops of my curtains was very bright.

By the quality and brightness of the light on my ceiling, I can usually gauge what the sky looks like.

Clear, blue, I thought to myself today. But it's a lot brighter than that which is weird. How could it be brighter than a clear blue sky?

I had my answer as soon as I pulled open the curtain by my bed: the ground is totally covered by snow which makes the sun reflect much brighter. I was right about the sky though, it is clear blue today.

In other hilarity, I pulled my car out of the garage yesterday because it was pouring rain and my car really needed a bath. Last night, I heard sleet or freezing rain plinking the windows and thought of my car, but I was really tired and hoped it would just melt in the warmness of day.

Alas, it has not yet gotten above freezing. I reckon my car is still snugged in under a blanket of snow.

Life of Art SitRep #218 More Life!

Usually I write up my week on Thursday night, but I'm doing it a day early since I'm not sure what the next days will hold. Fingers crossed that things will line up for Friday and have the best possible outcome.

Fortunately, I already finished adding my designs and photographs to the new Porcelain Plates this week.

I was in it for the puppies. I should've realized the book would be full of babies also. Babies and baby animals: puppies, dogs, kittens, birds, ducks...

These must have been sweetly tempered animals. Some of the photos actually made me kind of nervous because when I was little and gave a dog a hug, I was bitten and rushed to the emergency room. Rest assured, there's no bloodshed in the book.

I like that at the back of the book she has thumbnail photos which identify the animals (and babies).

The Yorkshire Terrier puppies are adorable. Puppies, FTW!

Nove!

I like how "nove" followed by an exclamation point looks like "novel."

9 years of blogging pretty much adds up to a novel.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about a large stack of printed pages mostly from TTaT that I hadn't touched in years and was tired of looking at.

I decided to recycle them, so I started flipping over the pages looking for blank sides I could use to print on again. The first few pages had all already been printed on both sides. And then I came across a story I'd forgotten that made me smile to see it.

This is my book, I thought to myself.

And then I knew what to do with it. I grabbed some colored sheets of paper which I loosely folded in half to keep the various sections separate. Then I got my Really Useful Box, sized for a ream of paper but holding parts of a Lego ship instead.

I consolidated the Legos in another container. I put my book in the box and put the box back on the shelf.

It may be neglected, but it's safe.

Happy 9th blogiversary, TTaT!

Life of Art SitRep #217 Porcelain

Porcelain Plates are the latest in the docket of additions to my shop. I feel like I must be at least halfway through, but I couldn't swear to it.

But you already have plates, you may be thinking. Yes, Melamine Plates. But the Porcelain Plates are safe in both the dishwasher and microwave which are features I like in plates.

Watched 1st two days and 1/3 of day 3 of Creative Cloud Essentials with Lesa Snider on Creative Live, basically all the parts relevant to the Photoshop Photographers Program. I can see how Lightroom would be advantageous to me.

Made monthly backups.

Have you backed up your computer lately? Mine's been on a crashing spree ever since I upgraded to Mavericks. sigh.
