Thinking

This image has been on my mind a lot lately. The near silhouette of me looking out. It's what came to mind when I thought of writing about Steve Jobs. I didn't expect to be so affected by news of his passing. Perhaps that–grief seems too strong–that sadness is selfish since it is his vision I will miss most. I so would have liked to see what he would've come up with in another 30 years.

Thank you for all of the beautiful, increasingly easy to use technology, Steve Jobs. It's made many things possible for me.

Now if you'll notice in the photograph, I'm not just looking out, I'm taking a photograph. This is acutely on my mind at present since I may need glasses. It has perhaps always been inevitable if you were to look at photographs of my entire spectacle wearing family, but I'm not ready for it. I am holding off for now because the focus disparity between my eyes is very mild, and I hope that now I'm not concerned it's a reaction to medication that it will mellow out. sigh. Also, I may have blown the prescription by not pressing my forehead far enough into the thing. Seemed like it was a sort of button, but I was just against it rather than pushing into it. Did I imagine that or is it common to those lens determining thingies?

In any case, paranoia aside, it may just be age which means it's only a matter of time.

  1. I've been in glasses since I was 9. I also rest my head against the lens things, but don't really push hard into them.

But if the vision difference is super mild it could just be eye strain. I'd practice a few eye exercises (like closing your eyes for 30 seconds, focusing on a far object for 30 seconds, then a close one then repeat a few times...I think do that a couple times a day) before you sign up for glasses and the expense they bring.

Last year I thought my prescription was changing again but it turned out to just be stress on my eyes because I am always focusing on a computer screen for work/school and not giving my eyes a break.

  2. Thanks, Sarah. It has been a bit better since I stopped mentally stressing over it. Not paying attention to it is oddly the best thing right now.

I also do spend a lot of time in front of the computer, so I reckon I have my excuse to look outside more now. :)

I've got another appointment in a couple months, so I'll hold off, do some eye exercises, and see how it goes until then.

  3. Well, if you do have to get glasses, at least you'll get to pick out new frames. For me that's always the highlight of my sadly worsening vision.

  4. It did cross my mind that I should start keeping an eye out for frames even if I hold off a while. It is only a matter of time. I'm not sure where to start when it comes to frames though.

All I know for certain is that aviator or other flat top style glasses don't work for me.
